Sometimes dinner is kind of a Mezze

A Mezze or Meze is a word for a taste or a snack in several Mediterranean cuisines- it is similar to the Spanish Tapas. And- sometimes it’s the easiest thing to pull together for a weeknight dinner or a Saturday lunch around our house.

We put together a selection of cheeses, bread and other small bites. That and a glass of wine or sparkling water and we’re set.  Here we have Red Pepper Hummus along with Petit Basque, Feta, Boursin and Amadeus cheeses, Picholine olives, black grapes, cornichons, a nice crisp Pinata apple, some homemade French bread and a lovely glass of Cabernet. You can use what you have on hand and vary everything to your taste. Dolmas(stuffed grape leaves) and charcuterie are a nice addition if you have them.

The next time you’re in a rush for a meal or just want to linger over a little taste of something try it.

    LisaRene- These meals are my fave too! I am so happy Ripley and Rosie got to have you for a parent- they landed in a good place!

    Courtney- Oh I am so looking forward to these meals in Summer out under the arbor covered with grapes in our backyard!

    This is the perfect meal in my books. Throw some Za’atar on my pitas and I am in heaven. I had this same meal if you can believe it the other day…although I didn’t have the fruit 😀

    When CS is away, this is the type of meal I enjoy much. Especially in the summer .Lite, easy, and flavorful.

    You have prepared my favorite meal, seriously, I am happiest with good cheese, bread, fruit and a little something extra 🙂 Oh, and of course wine! It’s so nice to enjoy your wine and graze on your food and not have to worry about getting something hot out of the oven or cleaning up from a complicated dinner.

    Thanks for your comment regarding Ripley. I can understand your cousin giving up her bird, your are right, it is hardest on the bird. I actually adopted a second moluccan when Ripley was about 6. Rosie was a 30 year old wild caught Moluccan that was horribly mistreated. She was a mutilator/plucker and terrified of men. We had her for 6 years and loved the dickens out of her before having to euthanize her 2 1/2 years ago because she was so very sickly. There is a photo of me, Rosie and Ripley on my “welcome” page.

    Anyway, it is interesting the twists and turns in our lives and how something as simple as bringing home a pet can alter our lives in a major way.
